Coker College Band Earth Day Concert

The Coker College Band will be performing an Earth Day centered concert on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, 2018, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center on the college’s Hartsville campus.
Celebrate Earth Day with a musical program of nature, Earth, and world peace inspired songs performed by the college’s 65 member concert band. The concert will conclude with Michael Jackson’s piece, “Heal the World” featuring members of the Mayo HS for MST Concert choir and Phoenix Phame show choir.
The Phoenix Phame show choir of Mayo High School for MST is in its seventh year of existence and has performed at several community events as well as Disney World, Carowinds, and the SC School Board’s annual conference. Phoenix Phame performs popular music of today and yesterday, promoting positivity and encouraging high self-esteem. Concert Choir is made up of Mayo’s more serious vocalists and includes students that participate in All-State Choir and State Performance Assessment where the group has consistently earned ratings of Excellent and Superior. Phoenix Phame and Concert Choir, directed by Cole Davis consist of students from all over Darlington County in grades nine through twelve.
The Coker Band, directed by Kelly Jokisch, is composed of a combination of Coker College student and community musicians. Community members include professional area music educators, band directors, choir directors, ministers of music, Coker College faculty members along with local students from Darlington High School, Hartsville High School, McBee High School, the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics and Florence District One. Concerts last 45-60 minutes without an intermission. The event is free and open to the public.
