Museum Muses and The Clay Pot

April 13, 2016 @ 3:30 pm

April 13th The Museum Muses are joining us at the Clay Pot around 3:30 in the Art Gallery for a visit with Johnny Tanner, local artist, musician, farmer and woodworker. Plan to be entertained by the tales of a songwriter and the 2 dimensional works of the artist.

Museum Muses meet on Wednesday, April 13 in the lobby of the Florence County Museum at 1:45 for a guided tour of the Pee Dee History Gallery. The program, presented by the City of Florence Recreation Department, invites individuals and friends to visit museums, art galleries and sites to explore, discuss and learn.

Gallery Exhibit by Local Artist Johnny Tanner extended through April – Tanner’s interest and art inspiration come from his childhood, seeing Mr. Jules Owens paint the baptistry in Rose Hill Baptist Church, right up the road from the Tanner house. Soon afterward Johnny headed downtown to buy a brush and a couple of tubes of paint. “Mr. Owens painted with earth colors, and those colors make up my palette today,” states Johnny. Johnny has painted lots of landscapes and ocean waves, imaginary places, and has won many awards for his work over the years. Lately Johnny has moved away from such detailed work and is painting a more impressionistic style of landscape – and even abstracts! landscapes and ocean waves, imaginary places, and has won many awards for his work over the years.
