Celebration by Alexi Torres

“This series of paintings is about giving society an inspiration for actions to celebrate; an option for things that we take for granted, yet they are the most important things to be grateful for. It is a proposal for all of us to concentrate and value the kindness of our human race. It is intended to be inspirational for younger generations, a new awareness of positive actions contributing to a reflection of our responsibility with nature and our interconnection¬†with everything. As a collective, we are used to having a cake for commemorations, anniversaries, and parties of any type. I am using different words as concepts to include other reasons to celebrate, like Imagine. I am using my basket weaving style to create the cakes. Each painting takes about 20 layers to intricately “weave” the cake, using oil paints. This woven effect further demonstrates our interconnectedness, dependance on each other, strength when we are connected, and vulnerability when we are separated from each other.” – Alexi Torres
