Through October 29 the Jones-Carter Gallery celebrates the artwork of New Orleans based artist, Aron Belka. Belka will make his South Carolina debut as the recipient of the Jones-Carter Gallery Roots Award. The Roots Award is a solo exhibition award presented to an ArtFields® Competition Artist. Aron Belka accepted the exhibition award during the finale ceremonies at ArtFields 2016.
This solo exhibition is a collection of Belka’s large-scale oil portraits and landscapes. Belka’s use of broad gestural marks of color and shape give reference to the abstract but are representational of each captivating subject.
“The subjects and themes that I currently paint are a frame of reference that combines the measurable with the abstract. In this exhibit I’ve brought together an inventory of work that juxtaposes recent influences from the culture of southern Louisiana and New Orleans where I live, and the culture of Sierra Leone where my wife does research as a field epidemiologist,” explains Aron Belka.
Most recently Belka exhibited in SCOPE Miami, and in March 2016 as a solo exhibition in SCOPE New York. Belka has been included in exhibitions at the Odgen Museum of Southern Art and the Contemporary Art Center of New Orleans. Belka competed in ArtFields 2016 and won the Peoples’ Choice 2-D Award.
ARTIST’S RECEPTION WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 AT 6 P.M.
Belka’s work will be on display at the Jones-Carter Gallery through October 29, 2016.
The Jones-Carter Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5pm and Saturday 11am – 5pm.
