Fashion & Fiction: An evening featuring Southern Author Kim Boykin and Fashion Expert Karen Edwards

Cheraw Arts Commission invites you to attend, Fashion & Fiction, an evening featuring Southern Author Kim Boykin and Fashion Expert Karen Edwards, will be held on Thursday, September 14 at Kevin Lear’s on Main in Cheraw from 6-8pm.  This free event for ladies is presented by Kevin Lear, Friends of the Chesterfield County Libraries and the Cheraw Arts Commission.
Kim Boykin was raised in her South Carolina home with two girly sisters and great parents. Almost everything she learned about writing, she learned from her grandpa, an oral storyteller, who would tell stories under an old mimosa tree on the family farm. Kim started writing while waiting in school car rider lines or on the bleachers at her children’s swim practice. After her kids left the nest, she submitted her work and sold her first novel at 53.
Thanks to the lessons she learned under that mimosa tree, her books are well reviewed and, according to RT Book Reviews, feel like they’re being told across a kitchen table. She is the author of Echoes of MercyA Peach of a PairPalmetto Moon and The Wisdom of Hair from Berkley/NAL/Penguin; Flirting with ForeverShe’s the OneJust in Time for ChristmasSteal Me, Cowboyand Sweet Home Carolina from Tule. While her heart is always in the Low country of South Carolina, she lives in Charlotte and adores hairstylists, librarians and book junkies like herself.
Karen Edwards is an attorney and senior instructor in the Department of Retailing at the University of South Carolina.  Recipient of the University’s 2017 Faculty Integrity Award and the 2010-11 Harry E. Varney Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award, she teaches undergraduate and master’s level courses in retailing.   Among others, Ms. Edwards developed the graduate-level courses Law for Retailers and Fashion and the Law, which provide students with an understanding of industry-specific legal issues and federal / state laws that relate to retailers and fashion-industry professionals.
Ms. Edwards has developed and led numerous study abroad program and was awarded the Brian J. and Linda L. Mahalik Global Scholar Award in 2016. She is a frequent presenter and past associate director at USC’s Center for Teaching Excellence, and the chair of the Central South Carolina chapter of Mensa.
