Holiday Open House: A Year-End Family Day Event at the Museu

Bring your holiday cheer and creativity to the table to create your own gingerbread masterpiece. Each participant will decorate his or her own small gingerbread house with yummy supplies.

·      Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments

      All Ages

Your home will smell of the holidays with this fragrant ornament. Participants will mix cinnamon salt dough and cut an ornament to the shape of their choice.

·      Hot Cocoa Cones

Mix up a sweet treat to go. Participants will fill a hot cocoa cone with sweet toppings and a candy cane stir stick to enjoy at home.

·      Puffy Snowman Painting

Create a wintery painting with puffy sensory paint. Participants will create a snowman painting with homemade puffy paint. (Paint recipe will be included.)

·      Snowflake Design

Learn about symmetry and create one-of-a-kind snowflakes. Participants will learn to fold and cut an original snowflake design.

·      Holiday Card Printmaking

Create a card to spread holiday cheer. Participants will use different printmaking techniques to create a festive holiday card.

Fall Fun at Family Day at the Florence County Museum

Fall Leaf Resist Painting

Document the shapes and colors of the beautiful fall foliage. Participants will create rubbings using fall leaves and add watercolor to reveal an awesome resist technique.

Pumpkin Glue Drawings

Create a fun fall pumpkin scene. Participants will draw pumpkins from real life to use in a textured artwork made from glue and chalk.

Fall Slime

All Ages

Get your hands in some gooey slime filled with fall color! Participants will make their own slime, adding color and glitter, in this exciting hands-on experiment.

Add color to fiber using materials found in nature. Participants will create a small sample while experimenting with different dyeing techniques using natural materials.

Discover our state from “A” to “Z.” This book is beautifully illustrated by Mary Whyte, an artist represented in the Wright Collection of Southern Art.
Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Stop by to speak to a representative from the Durant Children’s Center and pick up important information about child abuse prevention. Children can color a blue pinwheel, the symbol for child abuse awareness and get a temporary tattoo.
