Francis Marion University’s Young Gifted and Blessed (YGB) Choir will perform at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library
Tuesday, February 26, at 6:30 p.m.
The choir gathers students of various musical experience, ethnic backgrounds, and ages to celebrate music and spirituality through the rich tradition of African American religious music. For some, the choir is the first foray into gospel singing.
The mission of the YGB Choir is to give students a platform for singing the gospel, while also creating community across cultural and economic boundaries. Over time it has become a powerful tool for recruiting students to FMU. The group strives to perform to the highest musical standards, preserving and educating themselves about traditional forms, creating diversity, and exploring new musical avenues with African American gospel music.
Directed by Jeffery Lampkin, the choir performs several events throughout the year. In 2018 they were featured on ABC’s Good Morning America’s popular #AfterGMA segment with Robin Roberts on Facebook.
