Young Gifted and Blessed Choir

Francis Marion University’s Young Gifted and Blessed (YGB) Choir will perform at the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library

Tuesday, February 26, at 6:30 p.m.

The choir gathers students of various musical experience, ethnic backgrounds, and ages to celebrate music and spirituality through the rich tradition of African American religious music.  For some, the choir is the first foray into gospel singing.

The mission of the YGB Choir is to give students a platform for singing the gospel, while also creating community across cultural and economic boundaries.  Over time it has become a powerful tool for recruiting students to FMU.  The group strives to perform to the highest musical standards, preserving and educating themselves about traditional forms, creating diversity, and exploring new musical avenues with African American gospel music.

Directed by Jeffery Lampkin, the choir performs several events throughout the year. In 2018 they were featured on ABC’s Good Morning America’s popular #AfterGMA segment with Robin Roberts on Facebook.

For information contact the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation Florence Library.   This program is sponsored by Friends of Florence County Library.

Lake City Community Outreach – Lift Your Voice

Lake City Community Outreach presents “Lift Your Voice” Gospel Choir and Spoken Word Showcase on Friday, February 23rd beginning at 7:00 pm.

This FREE special event honors the musical roots and oral traditions of the African American Culture. High school gospel choirs, college gospel choirs, and spoken word artists will all come together to compete for cash prizes. There will also be a special guest!

Admission will be FREE, but donations of jogging suits/sweatsuits for females will be collected to present to Lake City Community Hospital for use with their work in helping survivors of sexual abuse or assault. When women come to the hospital for help with these cases, they must leave their clothes and dress in a jogging suit. Let’s band together as a community and “be the change!”
