Starr Ward Chamber Music Concerts Announces 

the last of Two Special Concerts presented this Spring as part of the Florence Downtown Development Corporation Starr Ward Chamber Music Concerts.

Sunday, May 6 Sara Ann Mitchell Jebaily, soprano

An emerging coloratura soprano, Sara is known for her shimmering voice and engaging stage presence. Most recently, Sara performed the role of the first maid in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Austin Lyric Opera. As a regular at Des Moines Metro Opera, Ms. Mitchell performed the role of the First Niece in Britten’s Peter Grimes, and covered the roles of Lisette in Pucinni’s La rondine and Sister Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites.

Sara also toured with Opera Iowa, the educational outreach division of Des Moines Metro Opera.

 

The concerts will be performed in the banquet hall of Victor’s Bistro in the Hotel Florence at 5PM. Admission is $10 at the door. A meet the Artist reception will follow.

Two Special Concerts are planned this Spring as part of the Florence Downtown Development Corporation Starr Ward Chamber Music Concerts.

 

Sunday, April 8 Yoonah Kim, clarinet

Winner, 2016 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition

In 2016, Korean-Canadian clarinetist Yoonah Kim became the first woman to win first prize at the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, and the first solo clarinetist to win CAG in nearly 30 nearly years. She has performed with The Juilliard and Mannes Orchestras, and in recitals at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space and Alice Tully Hall. A member of Ensemble Connect, she serves as an ambassador for Carnegie Hall in New York City public schools.

Chamber Music Series: Fei-Fei Dong

Chamber music series continues April 10 with pianist Fei-Fei Dong at Victor’s at Hotel Florence. The concert begins at 5pm with a meet the artist reception to follow. Tickets are $10 at the door. The program will feature Galuppi Sonata in C Major; Schumann Papillons and Liszt Sonata in b minor. Praised for her ”bountiful gifts and passionate immersion into the music she touches” (The Plain Dealer), Chinese pianist Fei-Fei Dong is a winner of the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition and a top six finalist at the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She continues to build a reputation for her poetic interpretations, charming audiences with her “passion, piquancy and tenderness” and “winning stage presence” (Dallas Morning News). 

Fei Fei’s burgeoning career includes a number of prominent engagements in the 2015-16 season, including New York City debut recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (CAG Winners Series), and at Merkin Concert Hall (Tuesday matinees series). Additional recitals include the Gilmore Rising Stars Series (Kalamazoo, MI), Macon Concert Association (Georgia), and St. Vincent College College Concert series (near Pittsburgh), where she will receive the Father Joseph Bronder Memorial Piano Prize.

Born in Shenzhen, China, Fei-Fei began piano lessons at the age of 5. She moved to New York to study at The Juilliard School, where she earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees under the guidance of Yoheved Kaplinsky.
