Auditions – The Wizard of Oz

The Lake City Community Theatre  is holding auditions for the student production of The Wizard of Oz.  Show dates are June 8th through June 10th.

Auditions are open to all persons 8 to 18 years of age. All audition materials will be furnished and no experience required.

Sunday February 25th at 2 pm  and  Thursday, March 1st at 5:30 pm at Blanding Street Auditorium.

Moore Farms Botanical Garden – Hypertufa Pots

Moore Farms Botanical Gardens invites you to put on some gloves and get your hands dirty! Hypertufa pots are fun, easy and rewarding to make.

 

These unique creations are composed of Portland cement, perlite, peat moss and water which looks like concrete, but is very lightweight.

 

In this class you’ll learn the step by step process to making hypertufa pots. This hobby is addictive, so once you start, you won’t want to stop! You’ll take home directions, care instructions and creative ideas to further your garden experience. Hands-on learning is always best so you’ll be making a flower pot to take home.

 

The cost is $30 per person and the class runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 1st.

Lynches Lake Historical Society – History Fields

On Tuesday, February 27th join the Lynches Lake Historical Society for History Fields.

During this lecture series, the History of Lake City 1916 – 1917, will be presented.

History Fields takes place at  7:00 pm at the Ronald E. McNair Life History Center located at 235 East Main Street, Lake City, SC.

 

Moore Farms Botanical Gardens – Yoga in the Garden

Come enjoy some tasty stretches, upper body and core strengtheners, plus a tranquil relaxation session to finish. These classes will take place all throughout the serene landscapes of Moore Farms Botanical Garden and are taught by TD Rykard.

 

Designed for all levels – from beginners to very experienced – this class focuses on the “yin” aspect of yoga to target connective tissues in addition to simply stretching muscles.

 

The cost is $10 per person and the class runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 26th.

Children’s & Teens’ Black History Program

This FREE event will feature local theatrical group The Dramatic Coffee Beans!  Through live performances, the audience is introduced to several African-Americans who haven’t been recognized in history books, but have made significant contributions to American society.

Lake City Community Outreach – Lift Your Voice

Lake City Community Outreach presents “Lift Your Voice” Gospel Choir and Spoken Word Showcase on Friday, February 23rd beginning at 7:00 pm.

This FREE special event honors the musical roots and oral traditions of the African American Culture. High school gospel choirs, college gospel choirs, and spoken word artists will all come together to compete for cash prizes. There will also be a special guest!

Admission will be FREE, but donations of jogging suits/sweatsuits for females will be collected to present to Lake City Community Hospital for use with their work in helping survivors of sexual abuse or assault. When women come to the hospital for help with these cases, they must leave their clothes and dress in a jogging suit. Let’s band together as a community and “be the change!”

Lake City Concert Series – “Love the Arts” An Education Fundraiser

Lake City Concert Series invites you to “Love the Arts” an educations fundraiser is co-sponsored by the Inn at the Crossroads.  Bring some you love to this additional fundraiser for only $25 per person.  This special event will feature entertainment by talented local musicians in a romantic setting with champagne and dessert.  This will be an evening to enjoy wonderful love songs while satisfying your sweet tooth.  Tickets may be purchased when you buy your season tickets or at the door.
