The Dichotomy of Being an Artist and Having a Career

Introducing a 9 week series of lunch hour professional development conversations for artists, join us as we explore the complexities of being a working artist and balancing a career at the same time. Addressing this issue, many artists face, is artist and psychologist, Dr. Sasha Federer.

Dr. Federer was born in Prague, Czech Republic. He came to the United States in 1972. For the last 40 years he has worked as a Psychologist, which is his profession, and for the last 38 years, worked as a potter, which is his passion. He studied ceramic art in the state of Washington and Wisconsin. He worked as professional studio potter for three years in New Hampshire and served as Artist in Residence with the National Endowment for the Arts.

This Professional Development Series for artists is possible due to the support of Wells Fargo.

Topics include lectures on finances for artists: how to price work, liscences and taxes, marketing, copyright laws, telling a story and finding inspiration, talent versus hard-work, and how to craft proper artist statements and artist bios. These conversations for artists of all forms will take place on Mondays from 12-1 in the Waters Building located in downtown Florence at 135 South Dargan Street. The cost of lunch is $10.
