What do high school students and kindergarten students have in common? Art’s the thing!
Art students at Wilson and South Florence, along with kindergarten students at Lucy T. Davis Elementary, will have an exhibit at the T. Thomas Art Studio on the weekend of April 7 th and 8 th (from Friday, April 7 th from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, April 8 th from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m.).
This is the third year that schools have come together for an art collaboration. The public is invited to view this exhibit which is a part of the Arts International Festival.
Inspired by the kindergartner’s drawings, art students of Carolina Doughty at South Florence and art students of Murriel Calcutt at Wilson formulated three-dimensional monsters from clay based on the kindergartners’ art work. The high schoolers used acrylic paint to match the colors employed by the five-year old artists. The teens also wrote letters to the kindergarten students expressing their excitement about working from the drawings.
The culmination of this project will be the meeting between the kindergartners and high school artists at the exhibit on April 7 th when the high school art students present their sculptures to the kindergarteners to keep.
The public is invited to view the exhibits on April 7 th and April 8 th at the T. Thomas Arts (studio) which is located at 167 North Dargan Street, downtown Florence.
