Artist Talk – Dustin Farnsworth: The Devil’s Work

The Jones-Carter Gallery invites you to attend an artist talk to learn more about artist Dustin Farnsworth on Saturday, March 3rd, 1:00pm.

The Devil’s Work presents sculptures by Dustin Farnsworth, sampled from the last seven years. The artist creates visceral and cerebral portraiture of today’s youth with critical portrayal of their worldly inheritance, engaging in visual rhetoric representing a generation in need of protection, empowerment and change. Often larger than life, Farnsworth’s socially conscious constructions are engrossing, captivating and surreal. Connected by a strong thread of craftsmanship, Farnsworth shows us that the devil is in the details.

Farnsworth was the 701 Center for Contemporary Art, Columbia, S.C., Artist in Residence from October through December 2017. This exhibition will include work created during his residency.
The Devil’s Work will be on display at the Jones-Carter Gallery though April 7, 2018

SMALL WORKS 2018 Juried Competition

Entering it’s fourth year, the Florence Regional Arts Alliance is pleased to announce this year’s Small Works Juried Competition.   Entries were received from cities throughout South Carolina and North Carolina. Thirty pieces by nineteen artists representing ten cities will be part of Small Works 2018.

On February 1st at 6:00pm the show opens at NDC Photography Studio in downtown Lake City with a reception at 105 East Main Street. Artists will be awarded the following prizes $500 (First Place), $250 (Second Place), $100 (Third place) and an Honorable Mention.

These works by artists from throughout the state are no larger than 12” x 12” and will be available for purchase. The exhibit is open through February 24th. Gallery hours are Thursday-Friday 11am to 5pm and Saturdays 10am – 2pm.

The show provides a place for the emerging artist to place alongside the professional artist. Organized by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance the show is generously underwritten by The Citizens Bank, the South State Bank, Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union and Marshal’s Marine.  The show aims to support the downtown economic revitalization efforts this year by highlighting a new arts space in the area. The size of these pieces allow for an affordable way for local art patrons to either compliment, add to, or begin a personal art collection.

About the Venue: NDC Photography Studio is owned and operated by Nancy Devon Carsten. Devon’s signature work captures those life moments, like walking down the aisle, bringing home a new baby, or sitting with three generations in one living room. She has made it her brand to create photographic heirlooms, “that are as cherished as a mother’s pearls being passed on to a daughter.” For more information visit:
